Speaking to the press today, Opiyo fronted Raila's brother Oburu Odinga as the leader who should be officially confirmed as the new Party Leader following Raila Odinga's death.
In that regard, Opiyo has urged ODM Party to move with speed to convene a National Delegates Convention after Raila is buried on Sunday, where they will formally elect Oburu Odinga as the new Party Leader.
Opiyo praised Oburu as an experienced leader who has composure and who is best placed to steer ODM Party to the next level.
"Infact I will be proposing as a life member of ODM that ODM convenes very very quickly, soon after Baba's send-off, the National Delegates Convention (NDC), to actually confirm Dr. Oburu's appointment and infact to elect him formally as the Party Leader of ODM." Opiyo Wandayi said.
This arguably points at a looming showdown in ODM Party. So far, no leader has come out to directly declare his or her interest in succeeding Raila Odinga as the Party Leader.
However, notable leaders who have been fronted by section of Kenyans include Babu Owino, Gladys Wanga, James Orengo, Anyang Nyong'o, Simba Arati, Edwin Sifuna and Hassan Joho.
Below are some of the reactions after CS Opiyo Wandayi suggested Oburu Odinga as the Leader who should succeed Raila Odinga as ODM Party Leader;
