ODM Seeks Help to Identify Man Caught on CCTV Stealing from Vehicle Covering Raila’s Procession

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has appealed to the public to help identify a man captured on CCTV stealing from a media vehicle belonging to Azimio TV.

According to ODM Communications Director, Philip Etale, the theft occurred on Thursday, October 16, at the Total Energies station in Hurlingham.

The Azimio TV van had been parked at a nearby carwash as the crew awaited the arrival of the late Raila Odinga’s body at Lee Funeral Home.

CCTV footage showed the suspect walking into the carwash area and taking a bag from the vehicle. The stolen bag reportedly contained vital equipment, including a laptop and hard drives with important footage and other media materials.

Etale shared the video clip on social media on Tuesday, October 21, urging anyone who recognizes the man to report the matter to help recover the stolen items.

Azimio TV, which streams its content online, was established in 2022 to cover Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign. Since then, it has continued to cover ODM events and activities associated with the late former Prime Minister.

At the time of the incident, the Azimio TV crew had been assigned to cover the arrival of Raila’s body from India and subsequent funeral proceedings.

The team documented key moments, including the reception at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, public viewing at Kasarani Stadium, the state funeral service, and the final rites in Kisumu and Bondo.

ODM has called on members of the public to assist in identifying the suspect to ensure justice and recovery of the stolen equipment critical to the ongoing media documentation of Raila Odinga’s memorial events.
