Final Walk: Clip Of Raila Odinga Walking In India In Hospital Clothes Hours Before His Death Emerge

Kenyans have been deeply touched after a video showing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga walking at a hospital in India emerged online, just hours before his sudden death.

According to reports, Raila collapsed on the morning of Wednesday, October 15, while undergoing treatment at an Ayurvedic hospital in Kerala, India.

Witnesses said he had just completed a light morning walk when he suddenly developed breathing difficulties.

He was quickly rushed to Devamatha Hospital, where doctors made several attempts to save his life. Despite their efforts, Raila was pronounced dead at around 9:52 a.m. Indian time.

A cardiologist at the hospital, Dr. Alphonse, later explained that the medical team performed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for several minutes before trying other emergency procedures. Unfortunately, his condition did not improve.

A video that has now gone viral shows Raila dressed in hospital clothes, walking calmly along the hospital pavement. He appeared relaxed, smiling, and in good spirits as an aide followed closely behind.

Many Kenyans said the clip was both moving and heartbreaking, describing it as the “final walk” of a man who had devoted his entire life to serving the nation.

“It’s shocking how life changes in a moment. He looked strong, only for us to hear that he is gone,” wrote one user on X.

Another added, “I have lost someone through cardiac arrest before. One moment you are talking, and the next, they are no more. This is very painful.”
    Nation in Mourning

President William Ruto confirmed Raila’s death and declared a seven-day period of national mourning. Flags will be flown at half-mast across the country as Kenyans reflect on his political journey and sacrifices for democracy.

Leaders from across the political divide, including governors, MPs, and international figures, have sent messages of condolence to the Odinga family.

Raila’s death has united the country in grief, with thousands visiting ODM offices and homes across Nyanza and Nairobi to pay their respects.
