ODM party leader Raila Odinga has broken his silence after weeks of speculation surrounding his health and absence from the public eye.
The veteran opposition leader has assured Kenyans that he is in good health, terming recent reports about his alleged illness and hospitalization as deliberate misinformation spread by political detractors.
Raila’s disappearance from the public stage had sparked widespread anxiety and fueled rumors about his health and political future.
Earlier reports suggested that he had traveled abroad for medical treatment before allegedly being admitted to a Nairobi hospital.
However, his secretariat has strongly dismissed the claims, describing them as a calculated smear campaign.
In a statement, Raila’s office accused a political group led by impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, alongside Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa, of orchestrating a familiar pattern of misinformation.
The team, according to the secretariat, is the same one that previously opposed Raila’s bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship earlier this year.
“Their hope then and now is to bully Hon. Raila into offering them a back to ride on in their struggle against President William Ruto,” the statement read.
Raila further accused the group of co-opting sections of the mainstream media to amplify fake stories sourced from bloggers, including AI-generated images, and presenting them as investigative news.
Raila maintained that he has always been transparent with Kenyans regarding his health and personal engagements.
He clarified that he had indeed traveled abroad on Friday evening, one of several trips he has made this year, but not to Europe as alleged in the false reports.
Reaffirming his commitment to national unity, Raila emphasized that he remains dedicated to the ideals of a Broad-Based Government.
He stated that he believes extreme challenges facing the nation demand equally bold compromises for the sake of stability.
“I am not indisposed, as some of my frustrated opponents wish,” he said, signaling his readiness to continue playing an active role in Kenya’s political landscape.
