Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati is mounting a political counterattack against National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and his Ford Kenya party, accusing them of sabotaging Bungoma’s development and engineering his political setbacks.
Speaking at a homecoming rally, Wangamati urged constituents to repudiate Wetang’ula’s influence, insisting that Ford Kenya’s leaders spread damaging rumours to President William Ruto rumours that led to his ouster as chairperson of the Public Service Superannuation Fund Board of Trustees.
Wangamati claimed the party orchestrated a “politically-motivated witch hunt,” including filing false graft reports against him.
He pointed out that although he was arrested by the Ethics & Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on theft allegations, he was cleared after investigations found no case.
Although he has not named which party he will run under in the 2027 gubernatorial election, Wangamati declared he will campaign aggressively across Bungoma, challenging Ford Kenya’s stronghold.
He reminded voters of his record including the 300-bed wing at the Bungoma County Referral Hospital, a dual carriage road in Bungoma town, and a scholarship scheme benefiting needy students.
Wangamati also decried attempts by Ford Kenya-aligned MCAs to use legal and parliamentary processes to stymie his work, alleging more than sixty lawsuits were filed against his administration in attempts to block infrastructure projects like roads and town planning.
