Raila Odinga, who was once the Prime Minister of Kenya, has told people to stop saying bad things about Siaya Governor James Orengo and Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
Some people were angry with the two governors because of what they said about the new agreement between ODM and UDA.
This agreement was signed by Raila and President William Ruto in March 2025.
Raila said the two governors did not do anything wrong. He said they were only saying what they think, and that is allowed in a democracy.
He said Orengo was talking about the agreement and saying his opinion. Orengo had said that the deal between ODM and UDA was a bad thing and warned it could make the opposition look like part of a failing government.
Nyong’o also spoke about problems with devolution. He said the national government is not helping counties the way it should.
He said that if the government really wants devolution to work, it should stop using organisations like KURA and KERA and give all the power and money to the counties.
Raila agreed with Nyong’o and said devolution is not working properly. He said counties have been given jobs to do, but they do not have enough money to do those jobs.
He blamed the national government for keeping the money that counties need to do development work.
Some leaders, like Senator Samson Cherargei from Nandi, said Orengo and Nyong’o are trying to destroy the unity between ODM and UDA. They also said the two governors are trying to bring trouble.
But Raila said that is not true. He said the two governors are only telling the truth and showing the problems that need to be solved.
He asked the Kenya Kwanza government to fix devolution so that development can happen and life can get better for people in the counties.
