Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused opposition leader Raila Odinga of playing double politics by creating two camps within his team.
According to Gachagua, Raila is cleverly using allies in Parliament to speak in different voices depending on the situation.
Speaking over the weekend, Gachagua said Raila has divided his team into two distinct groups.
One side, led by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, is tasked with praising the Kenya Kwanza government whenever it suits them.
The other side, led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, has the responsibility of criticizing the same government loudly to appear as though the opposition is still active.
The former DP argued that this tactic is confusing Kenyans and weakening genuine opposition politics.
He described it as a strategy meant to allow Raila to keep his influence both in government circles and among the opposition supporters.
“On one hand, Junet is busy congratulating government programs, while on the other hand Sifuna is shouting about how bad the same government is.
This is not a principled opposition; it is a game of survival,” Gachagua said.
He warned Kenyans to be cautious, claiming that Raila’s approach is designed to protect his political interests rather than fight for ordinary citizens.
Gachagua added that such tactics could mislead the public into believing there is still an active watchdog, while in reality, the opposition is being softened to cooperate with the ruling administration.
Still, Gachagua insisted that Raila should take a clear stand instead of “playing both sides of the field.”
He challenged the Azimio coalition to either fully support the government or remain in strong opposition. Click here.
