Speaking on X, Miguna did not mince words as he accused Matiang’i of having a track record that proves he is unfit to lead the country.
Miguna argued that Matiang’i represents the worst form of impunity and abuse of power witnessed in Kenya’s recent history.
He pointed out that during Matiang’i’s tenure as Interior CS under President Uhuru Kenyatta, he allegedly disobeyed multiple court orders, oversaw extrajudicial killings, and participated in what Miguna termed as state-sponsored persecution of political opponents.
“If we want to transform Kenya, we must not entertain characters like Matiang’i, who blatantly defied court orders and violated human rights. He has never been held accountable, yet he now wants to lead this country,” Miguna stated passionately.
The outspoken lawyer cited personal experiences, including his controversial deportation in 2018, which he claims was masterminded by Matiang’i.
Miguna recounted how he was detained without communication, sedated, and forcefully flown out of the country to Dubai, an ordeal that kept him in exile for nearly five years.
“Matiang’i exemplified abuse of power in its purest form. He ignored court rulings, destroyed my home, and orchestrated my abduction and torture. These are not the actions of a leader who respects the rule of law,” Miguna added.
Recent developments have shown Matiang’i stepping up preparations for his presidential campaign. A branded truck in Jubilee Party colors was recently spotted, signaling an active effort to popularize his 2027 bid.
The truck carried the slogan “Mbele Pamoja,” suggesting a continuation of Jubilee’s messaging and appeal.
However, Miguna has urged Kenyans, especially young voters and reform-minded citizens, to remain vigilant and reject leaders with a history of authoritarianism.
