Isaac Mwaura Defends Ruto, Blames Uhuru for Leaving Behind Inefficiency and Heavy Debts

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has drawn a sharp contrast between the transition of leadership from former President Mwai Kibaki to President Uhuru Kenyatta, and later from Uhuru to President William Ruto.

Speaking during a media briefing, Mwaura explained that when President Kibaki left office in 2013, he handed over a country whose economy was stable and well-managed.

He noted that Kibaki had laid strong foundations in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, leaving Uhuru with a functioning system to build upon.

However, Mwaura pointed out that the situation was very different in 2022 when President Ruto assumed office.

According to him, the Kenya Kwanza government inherited a nation weighed down by massive debts, inefficiencies in public institutions, and an economy that was already struggling.

He said this contrast explains why Kenyans should appreciate the resilience shown by the current administration.

“President Ruto did not take over a healthy economy like Uhuru did from Kibaki. Instead, he had to start from a very difficult point,” Mwaura stated.

The spokesperson further revealed that critics had predicted that the country would not survive economically for more than three months under the new administration.

Many expected the government to crumble due to the high cost of living, debt obligations, and revenue shortfalls.

But, three years later, Mwaura argued, the government has surprised doubters by staying afloat and even making progress in different sectors.

He said this was proof of the administration’s commitment and ability to steer the nation despite the challenges.

He also emphasized that the government remains focused on delivering key promises, including stabilizing the economy, creating jobs, and supporting farmers through subsidies and investments.
