Speaking on a local TV station on Monday night, Governor Mutai admitted that the political wrangles had affected service delivery and created uncertainty among residents.
“Impeachment processes disrupt government services,” he said. “We have to remember the county is bigger than any individual or political group.”
Mutai said he had reached out to religious leaders and members of the County Assembly to begin a reconciliation process.
He expressed hope that all leaders could work together despite past disagreements.
“We apologise for the tension and uncertainty we have caused,” he said.
“I promise that we are working on uniting all sides so we can deliver on our promises.”
The impeachment motion was brought by the County Assembly on August 15, with 33 out of 47 MCAs supporting it.
They accused the governor of misconduct, misuse of public funds, illegal staff dismissals, and suspicious payments.
However, the Senate voted against the motion on August 29. Only 16 senators supported it, while 26 opposed and one abstained.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi announced that the case would not move forward, as it didn’t meet the required threshold.
