“Every Job Application Felt Like Shouting Into the Void, But I Finally Made It” Says Kampala Tech Graduate

For 29-year-old Brian from Ntinda, the road to employment was filled with frustration and disappointment. 

Despite having a degree in Computer Science from Makerere University, he often felt invisible in the job market.

After graduation, Brian believed it would only be a matter of time before he found work in Kampala’s growing tech industry. But reality proved different. He spent months submitting applications to more than 50 companies, tailoring each CV and cover letter with hope that someone would call him back. 

At times, his efforts paid off with an interview, but the process always ended the same way—no job offer.

As rejection piled up, Brian’s confidence began to fade. He watched his former classmates secure positions in reputable firms, while he remained at home feeling defeated. 

“It felt like shouting into the void,” he recalled. “I had the skills, but no one seemed interested.”

The long search also took a toll on his mental health. His family supported him, but even their encouragement couldn’t erase the self-doubt that grew stronger with each unsuccessful attempt.

Still, Brian refused to give up completely. Instead of waiting for opportunities, he decided to improve his skills further. He enrolled in short online courses in data analysis, cloud computing, and software development.

That decision proved to be a turning point. One day, while attending a networking event in Kampala, Brian met a company director who was impressed by his determination and additional certifications.
