Dr. Miguna Lashes Out at Uhuru Kenyatta After Former French President is Sentenced for 5 Years

Outspoken lawyer and political activist Dr. Miguna Miguna has reignited debate on accountability and justice in Kenya after citing the recent sentencing of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy as an example of how powerful leaders can face the law.

Dr. Miguna, who has long criticized Kenya’s political elite, argued that the conviction of Sarkozy to five years in prison for criminal conspiracy proves that no leader is above the law.

He said Kenyans must never lose hope that, one day, justice will catch up with those who have allegedly engaged in corruption, human rights abuses, and misuse of power.

In a strongly worded statement, Miguna stated that the day will come when former Kenyan presidents Uhuru Kenyatta, William Ruto, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will face trial for what he termed as “crimes against the people.”

He envisioned a future where Kenyan courts could deliver a bold headline:

“BREAKING NEWS: Kenyan Court Jails Former Presidents Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto, and Former PM, Raila Odinga, for 150 years for corruption, crimes against humanity, and abuse of power.”

According to Miguna, Kenya’s justice system has for decades shielded political leaders from accountability, leaving ordinary citizens to bear the brunt of economic mismanagement and impunity. He urged Kenyans to demand stronger institutions and a judiciary that operates independently of political interference.

The fiery lawyer also criticized what he termed as a culture of glorifying leaders despite questionable records, saying this has perpetuated cycles of corruption and state capture. He insisted that justice is not selective, and if France could prosecute a former president, Kenya too could hold its leaders accountable.

Political analysts say Miguna’s remarks come at a time when public frustration is rising over corruption scandals and a struggling economy. Many Kenyans feel that leaders often escape justice while citizens suffer from high taxes, poor healthcare, and lack of opportunities.

Dr. Miguna’s comments have sparked debate online, with his supporters praising him for speaking boldly, while critics accused him of fueling divisions by targeting specific leaders.
