Fresh details have emerged on the influential Jubilee Party figures who played a key role in encouraging former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to consider the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to insiders, the Tuesday consultative meeting held at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi was not just a routine gathering but a carefully planned session to chart the party’s future.
Those in attendance included Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, former Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, and other senior leaders keen on reviving the once-dominant political outfit.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Kioni emphasized that the gathering was part of Jubilee’s broader strategy to re-energize itself and prepare for the next electoral cycle.
Sources privy to the meeting revealed that the three leaders—Kioni, Nyoro, and Wambugu—were instrumental in persuading Matiang’i to view Jubilee as a viable political vehicle for 2027.
Their argument centered on the need for a strong, credible candidate who could rally support across the country while restoring Jubilee’s former glory.
Jeremiah Kioni, known for his consistency in defending Jubilee’s legacy, is said to have reassured Matiang’i of the party’s ability to bounce back if anchored on a credible leader.
James Nyoro, with his background in technocracy and governance, argued that Matiang’i’s track record in public service could appeal to both urban and rural voters.
Ngunjiri Wambugu, on his part, highlighted the need for a generational shift and positioned Matiang’i as the leader who could embody that transition.
The meeting also sought to craft strategies to counter rival coalitions and regain Jubilee’s place in the national conversation. Insiders disclosed that key issues such as coalition-building, youth mobilization, and grassroots revival dominated the discussions.
But even as the September 26 NDC draws closer, the spotlight will be on whether Matiang’i formally accepts the Jubilee ticket and if these early endorsements will transform into a robust national campaign machine.
