Cracks Widen In Ruto’s UDA As Sources Reveals What Nominated MCAs & MPs Are Reportedly Plotting In Secret

A major political upheaval is expected to rock President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, as some of its senior leaders begin laying plans to leave ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Some of these leaders, who hold key positions within the party and in Parliament, have emerged as fierce critics of President Ruto’s administration, especially over allegations of suppressing opposition through terrorism-related charges and abductions allegedly carried out by government agents.

Others have started making statements that contradict the party’s official stance, even on issues that require a unified position, signaling a strong possibility of defecting to the opposition. 

The likelihood of mass defections has been further fueled by open remarks from UDA-elected leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i.

Several political leaders from the Mt. Kenya region have already declared support for Mr. Gachagua, while some UDA politicians from the Gusii region have publicly pledged allegiance to Dr. Matiang’i ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sources indicate that some nominated MPs and MCAs (Members of County Assembly), particularly from Mt. Kenya, are simply waiting for the right moment to exit UDA.

This situation has prompted the party to take strict action against nominated leaders.

UDA has already expelled nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba and is in the process of removing nominated MCAs Joy Mwangi (Nairobi) and Ann Thumbi (Nyeri) for allegedly supporting the opposition.

Senate Majority Leader Dr. Boni Khalwale (Kakamega), Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, and Nyali MP Mohammed Ali have become vocal critics of the Kenya Kwanza administration from within the party.
