BREAKING NEWS: Six, Including Patient, Perish in Ambulance Accident

A heartbreaking accident happened on Saturday night, September 27, 2025, along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway near Kimende

An ambulance carrying a patient to hospital crashed, killing all six people inside.

According to people at the scene, the ambulance was moving at high speed while rushing a woman who had been in critical condition.

Sadly, before reaching the hospital, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which overturned and smashed at the black spot area of Kimende.

Those who died in the accident included the patient, her husband, two close relatives, a nurse who was taking care of the patient, and the ambulance driver.

None of them survived the crash. Witnesses said the wreck was completely destroyed at the front, making it clear how severe the impact was.

The ambulance involved belonged to St. Mary’s Elementaita. Photos from the scene showed twisted metal and broken glass scattered all over the road.

For many Kenyans who traveled through that highway, it was a painful reminder of how quickly life can be lost on the road.

Residents living around Kimende were not surprised that such an accident happened there.

They explained that the spot is one of the most dangerous sections of the highway, with sharp corners and a long record of deadly crashes.

Many called for more signs and better road safety measures to prevent future tragedies.

This accident came barely a day after another road crash happened at Gilgil, just a few kilometers away along the same highway.

That Friday evening accident involved a truck and several vehicles between Kikopey and St. Mary’s.

The truck overturned, blocking the road and causing a heavy traffic jam that left motorists stranded for hours.

Several people were injured in that incident, though the exact number was not immediately confirmed.

The Nairobi–Nakuru Highway is one of Kenya’s busiest roads, connecting major towns and supporting thousands of travelers every day.

Unfortunately, it has also gained a reputation for frequent accidents, especially in areas with steep slopes and black spots.

Police have urged drivers, including those handling emergency vehicles, to observe road rules and avoid overspeeding, even when rushing patients to hospital.

They warned that speed often reduces control and can turn a rescue mission into a tragedy.
