The widow of Job Obwaka has shared emotional details about how she first met her husband decades ago at a hospital theatre in Machakos County, marking the beginning of a relationship that later grew into a long marriage.
Speaking during a memorial service held at CITAM Valley Road, Everose Chemtai recalled that she met the late gynaecologist when he had travelled for postgraduate medical training.
She said she was still young at the time, and the two quickly developed a close bond after their initial encounter at the hospital theatre.
According to Everose, what started as a friendship eventually developed into a marriage that lasted 46 years and was blessed with seven children and nine grandchildren.
Her heartfelt recollection drew smiles and laughter from mourners as she fondly reflected on the life they built together.
Everose described Dr Obwaka as a loving and devoted husband who placed great value on family life.
She said that despite the challenges they faced over the years, they managed to build a stable and happy home anchored in love and mutual understanding.
The widow advised young people seeking long-term relationships to prioritise genuine love and commitment as key foundations for lasting marriages.
She also shared lighter memories from their marriage, revealing that she had different affectionate nicknames for her husband depending on her mood.
Everose further recalled that the couple at one point worked at Kenyatta National Hospital before later relocating to Kisii for professional assignments.
She described Dr Obwaka as intelligent, financially stable and generous, qualities she said made it easy for her to fall deeply in love with him.
According to her, the late doctor remained committed to his family throughout his life and was rarely away from home for extended periods due to the demands of his medical career.
Her tribute comes days after she earlier recounted the couple’s final morning together before his sudden death, where they shared breakfast and later planned to meet for dinner that never happened.
The sudden death of Job Obwaka has continued to draw public attention, with many Kenyans paying tribute to his long medical career and family life.
He is expected to be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Mumias, Kakamega County.
