Speaking during a requiem service at CITAM Valley Road, Everose Chemtai narrated how the respected medic gave her KSh10,000 on the morning of May 1, just hours before he later collapsed and died.
According to Everose, the day began peacefully after Dr Obwaka woke her up early in the morning so they could share breakfast together at home.
She told mourners that the couple spent several hours together before the renowned gynaecologist prepared to leave for work.
The widow recalled that after breakfast, Dr Obwaka noticed her hair and suggested she visit a salon.
She said the doctor then handed her KSh10,000 to cater for the salon visit.
Everose further disclosed that when she asked him about their lunch plans later in the day, he reportedly assured her that they would instead meet for dinner.
Sadly, the planned dinner never happened.
A few hours later, Dr Obwaka reportedly collapsed in the Milimani area of Kitengela before being rushed to The Nairobi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The sudden death of the respected doctor shocked colleagues, friends and members of the public, many of whom remembered him as a dedicated medical professional committed to patient care.
During the emotional memorial service, Everose also spoke about the pressure her husband had allegedly been facing in the weeks leading up to his death.
She claimed the doctor became increasingly fearful after receiving calls from influential individuals concerning a court case linked to leadership disputes at The Nairobi Hospital.
According to the widow, Dr Obwaka frequently expressed concern about his safety and would sometimes ask her to check on him whenever he stayed away for several hours without communication.
Everose also alleged that her husband’s arrest weeks before his death deeply affected him emotionally and physically.
She claimed the stress surrounding the legal disputes and public controversy contributed to sleepless nights and anxiety within the family.
The widow further suggested that the emotional pressure may have worsened the doctor’s condition before his sudden collapse.
However, no official medical report has publicly linked the alleged stress directly to the cause of death.
Throughout the requiem service, Everose described Dr Obwaka as a loving husband, caring father and compassionate doctor who dedicated much of his life to helping others.
She said despite the pain of losing him unexpectedly, she wanted Kenyans to remember him with dignity and respect for the work he did in the medical profession.
Mourners who attended the memorial service continued to pay tribute to the late medic, describing him as humble, professional and committed to serving patients.
Dr Obwaka’s death has continued to attract public attention, especially amid ongoing disputes surrounding the management and leadership of The Nairobi Hospital.
Meanwhile, Kenyans on social media have continued sending messages of condolence to the family as they mourn the loss of the veteran doctor.
