The rally, which is expected to attract tens of thousands of supporters from different parts of the country, has been described by party leaders as a significant gathering aimed at reaffirming ODM’s unity, strengthening its grassroots structures and showcasing its influence in the region.
A team of leaders and organisers overseeing the preparations spent Saturday inspecting the venue and coordinating final logistical details.
The grounds were a hive of activity as workers completed construction of the main dais, installed public address systems and prepared designated sections for guests, party officials and members of the public.
Lang’ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, who is coordinating the entertainment segment of the event, said preparations had been ongoing for several days to ensure supporters enjoy a well-organised experience.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the venue, Jalang’o said teams had worked tirelessly to transform the grounds into a suitable location capable of accommodating the large crowds expected to attend.
“We have spent days and nights here making sure everything is in place. The preparations have been extensive, from clearing the grounds to setting up facilities that will ensure our guests are comfortable. We are almost fully ready and looking forward to hosting a successful event,” he said.
According to the MP, the rally will not be limited to political speeches but will also feature performances from some of the region’s most popular musicians. He noted that entertainment had been included to create an atmosphere of celebration and strengthen the connection between party leaders and supporters.
Among the artistes expected to perform are Prince Indah, Elisha Toto, Abongo Jakabwana and Onyi Papa Jay, whose appearances are anticipated to draw large crowds from across Nyanza and neighbouring regions.
Jalang’o encouraged residents to attend the event in large numbers, saying it would provide an opportunity for supporters to interact with ODM leaders and participate in discussions about the party’s future direction.
Seme MP James Nyikal said the rally forms part of broader efforts by ODM to consolidate support and reinforce party structures at the grassroots level.
Nyikal revealed that leaders had conducted mobilisation campaigns in several parts of Kisumu County and beyond, engaging youth groups, women’s organisations, traders and boda boda operators ahead of the gathering.
“This is an important ODM function whose objective is to strengthen our party and bring together members from all walks of life. We want to demonstrate unity and ensure that our supporters remain actively involved in the party’s programmes,” he said.
The legislator disclosed that organisers were expecting approximately 30,000 people to attend the event, making it one of the largest political gatherings in the region this year.
He added that the turnout would send a strong signal regarding ODM’s continued popularity and organisational strength in its traditional support base.
Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro, who serves as secretary of the planning committee, assured supporters that security and logistical arrangements had been finalised.
Oraro said organisers had worked closely with relevant agencies to ensure the safety of attendees and maintain order throughout the day.
“I want to assure everyone that we are ready for tomorrow. We have put in place all the necessary measures to ensure this rally is successful. Security arrangements have been carefully planned, and all logistical requirements have been addressed,” he said.
He urged residents to arrive early and participate peacefully in the event, which is expected to feature addresses from senior ODM leaders and invited guests.
Political observers view the Kisumu Wabiro rally as an important occasion for ODM as the party seeks to maintain cohesion amid ongoing political realignments across the country. The gathering is also expected to provide a platform for leaders to outline their vision for the future and address emerging national issues affecting citizens.
The rally comes at a time when ODM leaders have been intensifying grassroots engagements in different counties, signalling renewed efforts to strengthen the party’s support network and prepare for future political contests.
By Saturday evening, workers were putting the finishing touches on the venue as anticipation continued to build among supporters.
