"Nitamkaranga" Gachagua Pray For Chance To Meet Ruto Face to Face In A Presidential Debate

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again made clear his ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a gathering organized by the People’s Liberation Party, Gachagua said his biggest disappointment would be missing the opportunity to face President William Ruto in a presidential debate.

The politician, who is among the leading figures in the United Opposition, revealed that although the coalition has not yet agreed on a single flag bearer, he strongly believes he is the best person to take on the head of state.

“I will only have one disappointment if I am not chosen,” Gachagua said in a video that quickly went viral.

“I will miss the chance to meet William Ruto in a debate. If I get that opportunity, I would put him on the spot and expose his failures before Kenyans. That is the regret I would have if I am denied the ticket.”

Despite his bold words, Gachagua noted that he would still support whichever candidate the opposition settles on.

He said unity within the coalition was more important than individual ambition, adding that all leaders must be willing to rally behind one person to stand a realistic chance of defeating Ruto.

The United Opposition is currently made up of several high-profile figures. Martha Karua, the leader of PLP, has already declared her intention to run for president and ruled out the possibility of being anyone’s deputy.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has also expressed his desire to succeed Ruto, insisting that 2027 is his final chance.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who has been seen working closely with Gachagua, is also viewed as a possible contender.
