Grief as 22-year-old Mombasa Man is Allegedly Shot Dead By Police During Altercation with Suspects

A family in Watamu has called for investigations following the death of a man who was allegedly shot and killed by police in Kilifi.

According to reports, the deceased, 22-year-old Karisa, was shot dead during an altercation between the police and a suspect who was accused of stealing a motorcycle.

The grieving family called for the arrest and prosecution of the police officers who were involved in the shooting.

They alleged that the police did not visit the scene of the incident even after killing the victim.

"The police were dealing with a suspect who was accused of stealing a motorcycle. Karisa was shot in the chest at his place of work. He died on the spot," the family said.

Human rights activists who spoke about the incident called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to investigate the incident in order to establish what happened prior to the shooting.

They called on the IPOA to ensure that the police officers who were involved in the shooting are dealt with in accordance with the law.

"We would like to call upon the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to investigate the incident. They should ensure that the suspects who were involved are dealt with by the law," an activist said.
