President William Ruto’s security team on Thursday, February 12, swiftly responded to a security scare after an unidentified man attempted to access the podium while the Head of State was addressing the public.
According to a video seen by this publication, the man, whose intentions remain unclear, tried to move closer to the President before he was intercepted by members of the security detail.
The unexpected incident briefly disrupted the event and appeared to catch the President off guard, prompting his security officers to quickly move in and restrain the individual.
Ruto was in Mandera for the second day of his Northern Kenya tour, where he presided over the disbursement of funds under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project.
Despite the attempted breach, the President remained calm and composed. He was heard urging his security officers to handle the situation with restraint.
“Wachana na yeye, wachana na yeye. Akae hapo mbele, nitaongea naye baada ya hii,” Ruto said, asking his security team to let the man sit at the front so he could speak to him after the event.
The situation was quickly brought under control, and the event proceeded without further interruption.
