"Mbeere North Defeat Showed Mt Kenya People Don't Listen to Gachagua" Says CS Ruku

Public Service Cabinet Secretary, Geoffrey Ruku, has urged Mt Kenya residents to ignore impeached Deputy President and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua's forays in the region.

Speaking during a public the wedding of Lari MP Kahangara in Kiambu on Saturday, CS Ruku said the people of the Mt Kenya region should remain steadfast in supporting President William Ruto.

Ruku claimed the Mbeere North by-election outcome sent a clear message that Mt Kenya are no longer backing leaders who thrive on regional divisions and self-styled political titles.

Taking direct aim at Gachagua, Ruku criticized what he described as “chest-thumping politics” over perceived political dominance in the Mt Kenya region.

In the November 27, 2025, by‑election for Mbeere North, UDA’s Leonard Wa Muthende emerged victorious, garnering 15,802 votes.

His closest challenger was DP’s Newton Kariuki (Karish), who garnered 15,308 votes, leaving Muthende with a narrow edge of 494 votes.

The result handed UDA the parliamentary seat, in what turned out to be a closely fought contest between the ruling party and United Opposition.

He urged Kiambu residents to rally behind national unity and development-focused politics rather than divisive narratives.
