Karua Claims Ruto Will Lose Support in 2027 Election

People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua has predicted that President William Ruto will receive fewer votes in the 2027 General Election than he did in 2022, arguing that public confidence in his administration has significantly declined.

Speaking during a media interview on Sunday, February 16, 2026, Karua stated she has never supported Ruto’s leadership and does not consider him fit to lead the country.

“I have never supported him before, so the question of supporting him again does not arise. I have never considered him suitable for the presidency,” she said.

Claims of Declining Popularity

Karua alleged the president’s political backing has weakened across the country and insisted the next election will reflect that shift.

According to her, the head of state is aware of the growing dissatisfaction among citizens and will struggle to match his previous vote tally.

“He got some votes before, but this time he will not even have those numbers. The whole country has revolted against the administration,” she claimed.

Her remarks come amid rising political tension and frequent criticism from opposition leaders over governance, economic hardship and human rights concerns.

Warning Over 2027 Political Climate

Karua painted a worrying picture of the 2027 election period, suggesting the country could face heightened political confrontation if the current situation persists.

She accused the president of adopting a confrontational approach to politics, warning that such rhetoric risks destabilising the nation.

“The presidency is a position of service, not ownership,” she stated, adding that leadership should be exercised in the interest of citizens rather than personal power.

Call for Accountability

The opposition figure further argued that leaders must remember they serve the public and can be replaced through democratic processes if voters lose confidence in them.

She emphasised that political office does not belong to an individual but to the people, and voters ultimately determine who remains in power.

Karua concluded that the next election will be a decisive moment, saying Kenyans will use the ballot to express their approval or dissatisfaction with the current administration.
