Kaluma made the announcement via his official X account on Friday, December 26, 2025, describing the move as a strategic step for the party while cautioning dissenting voices within ODM.
“The ODM party to formally engage President William Ruto for pre-election coalition ahead of 2027. Let the traitors within exit, now,” Kaluma posted.
Kaluma’s statement comes at a time when ODM is navigating internal tensions over messaging and strategy.
Earlier in the week, ODM party leader Oburu Odinga emphasized the importance of consistent communication once a collective position has been agreed upon.
Speaking on December 23, 2025, Oburu urged members to avoid issuing conflicting public statements and to respect agreed-upon party positions.
“Siwezi sema najua kila kitu, ama nikisema ati left ni left, lazima tuconsult na watu wetu, lakini tukisha consult, na tumeshakubaliana, ati hii ndio policy ya chama, kila mtu aseme hio language, isiwe tukitoka hapo, huyu anasema language yake, huyu yake,” Oburu said.
ODM Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir also weighed in on the matter, calling for members with differing views to engage openly rather than undermining the party from within.
“We will not allow our party, The ODM party, to be weakened from within. This party belongs to its members, and as leaders, we bear a responsibility to safeguard their interests and act in the best interests of our country,” Nassir said on December 25.
He further emphasized that leadership requires transparency, courage, and accountability.
“If there are differing views or proposals, let them be presented openly and constructively, just as we openly declared our intention to form the government. Leadership demands honesty, courage, and accountability, not concealment,” he added.
Nassir also suggested a strategic shift for ODM as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
“In 2027, we will redeem this country while inside the government. Soon we will be giving the direction we will take, and I want to ask those of the opinion that we start talks with Ruto’s government ahead of the 2027 polls. We cannot be in opposition forever,” he said.
