Moses Kuria Apologises to Luo Community Over Long-Standing Political Narratives

Former senior government advisor Moses Kuria has issued a strong and emotional statement addressing what he described as decades of political manipulation between the Kikuyu and Luo communities.

In his remarks, Kuria said that for nearly 60 years, Kikuyus were presented with a negative image of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and later his son, Raila Odinga, which was used as a powerful tool for political mobilisation.

Kuria admitted that portraying the Odinga family as enemies created fear and deepened mistrust.

He likened the strategy to a church that survives not without angels, but with a devil to fight, explaining that politics used the same tactic by creating an “enemy” to rally support.

According to him, this approach worked for many years but caused lasting damage to national unity.

In a rare moment of reflection, Kuria openly stated that the narrative was wrong.

Speaking on behalf of the Kikuyu community and the wider Mt Kenya region, he offered what he called an unqualified and sincere apology to the Luo Nation.

He said the time had come to acknowledge past mistakes and begin honest conversations aimed at healing old wounds.

However, Kuria also cautioned that two wrongs do not make a right.

He said just as it was unfair to portray the Odingas as enemies, it is equally wrong to label former President Uhuru Kenyatta or the Kikuyu community as enemies of the Luo people.

He warned against replacing one harmful political narrative with another.

The former advisor urged both communities to reject being used as tools for political mobilisation based on fear, hatred, or false rivalries.

He said such tactics only benefit a few individuals while ordinary citizens continue to suffer the consequences of division and mistrust.
