Wambugu: Gachagua campaigned solo for credit, must face Mbeere North loss alone

Former Nyeri Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu took to his social media accounts on Saturday, November 29, 2025, to comment on the recent Mbeere North election.

He said the reason former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was doing such ‘sacrificial’ door-to-door campaigns alone was because he wanted to hog all the credit after a win.

Ngunjiri added that the strategy reflected Gachagua’s personal desire to be seen as the main driver of the campaign.

He emphasized that such solo efforts often risk alienating other party members who also contribute to campaigns.

The Mbeere North by-election was held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, and attracted significant attention from political leaders.

Gachagua’s approach, according to Ngunjiri, left little room for collaborative planning and teamwork during the campaign.

He suggested that this style of campaigning could have affected voter turnout and overall party performance.

Ngunjiri argued that while it is commendable to be personally committed, elections require collective effort for success.

He insisted that now that Gachagua lost, he must also accept all the responsibility for the loss alone.

The former MP warned that taking all the credit in victories and deflecting blame in defeats sets a dangerous precedent in politics.

He concluded that political leaders should embrace teamwork to strengthen party unity and improve future electoral outcomes.

This message sparked widespread debate online, with supporters and critics sharing differing opinions on leadership styles in Kenyan politics.

Analysts noted that solo campaigns by high-profile leaders can sometimes overshadow grassroots organizers who play crucial roles.

The Mbeere North by-election results continue to be a reference point for discussions on strategy, accountability, and political culture.
