Matiang'i Discloses Why he Was Relieved After Raila's 2018 Mock Swearing-in

Ex-Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, now says he is glad former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's mock presidential oath went on smoothly.

Raila swore himself in as People's President at Uhuru Park in 2018, after contesting his defeat to former President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 election.

Matiang'i, then tasked with national security at the time, has stated that he is glad the police didn't need to get involved.

“I thank God because the event happened at Uhuru Park to a successful conclusion without a single shot being fired or a single incident," he said during an interview on Citizen TV on Friday.

He, however, admitted that it was a big test for him and the government, revealing that the Security Council even held a meeting on how to handle the situation after learning about Raila's plans.

Raila died in India on last month due to cardiac arrest and is set to be laid to rest in Bondo on Sunday.
