Democracy For Citizens Party (DCP) Nairobi Patron, Irungu Nyakera, has urged Kenyans to begin preparing for a different administration after the 2027 general election.
The former Transport Principal Secretary claims that President William Ruto stands no chance of being reelected and will be defeated if he proceeds with his bid.
He argues that the numbers are increasingly against the Head of State, judging by the political shifts emerging as Kenyans approach the polls.
According to Nyakera, in the 2022 election, Ruto only narrowly defeated his then-rival, the late Raila Odinga, in a few regions—some of which have since abandoned him.
The politician further contends that even though some of Raila's former strongholds may now lean toward Ruto, the regions opposed to the President’s re-election carry far more weight than those still backing him.
“Many ‘two term’ Kenyans seem to forget that President Ruto only beat Raila in: Mt Kenya, Rift Valley, Bungoma, Marsabit and Isiolo,” he says on X.
“Now, if you remove Mt Kenya from this equation, and then exclude the ODM-leaning counties that have since shifted to the opposition (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Nyamira, and Kisii), it becomes obvious to anyone that reelection will be as hard to achieve as a fart in space,” he further states.
Ruto, however, continues to express confidence in securing a second term.
He has repeatedly dismissed his critics—including the DCP leadership—as individuals who lack an agenda and who, according to him, cannot defeat him in a national election.
