Tena Si Babu Owino? Tension As Analyst Declares The Leader Who Can Save ODM After Raila's Death, Check Details

Political analyst Herman Manyora has thrown his weight behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, describing him as the right person to lead the Orange Democratic Movement into a new era.

Speaking in Nairobi, Manyora said the death of former ODM leader Raila Odinga had created a defining moment for the party, urging members to embrace generational transition to safeguard its future.

According to him, ODM must evolve beyond its founding generation if it intends to remain relevant in Kenya’s fast-changing political environment.

“Any institution that wishes to endure must have a clear line of succession. The world is moving through a generational shift, and ODM cannot remain behind,” he remarked.

Manyora described Sifuna as a sharp, articulate, and dynamic leader who reflects the energy and ideals that Raila Odinga had hoped to nurture in young politicians.

He noted that passing the leadership baton to Sifuna would not betray Raila’s vision but rather fulfill it.

“The future of ODM lies with leaders like Sifuna. This is the moment for the party to accept change and allow youthful leadership to take charge,” Manyora added.

He, however, questioned the suitability of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga as interim leader, saying the party needed someone with vigor and a clear vision to navigate the delicate transition period.

He suggested Siaya Governor James Orengo as a more capable temporary caretaker.

Manyora’s remarks come amid visible divisions within ODM, with one camp led by Sifuna pushing for a fresh political direction, while another faction allied to Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga seeks to maintain close ties with President William Ruto’s administration.

He warned that failure to embrace change could see ODM fade away alongside Raila’s generation, a caution that has reignited debate over the party’s future leadership.
