Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei, a close ally of President Ruto, has launched a blistering attack on ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, labelling him a "mole" and the "biggest threat" to ODM's future, and demanding his removal from the party by the end of the year.
The UDA senator's attack comes just hours after the final burial of the late Raila Odinga.
According to Cherargei, his frustration stems from Sifuna being the only senior leader in ODM who has not accepted what he claims was Raila's final wish.
"The entire ODM leadership except Sifuna have confirmed that Baba Raila Odinga instructed them to stay & work with President Ruto administration," the senator declared in a fiery social media post.
Cherargei's comments echo the sentiment expressed by several ODM leaders who are now serving in government.
During the funeral service in Bondo, Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi publicly stated that Raila had "left them in government" with President Ruto, and he vowed that they would work with the current administration "to the end."
This, and similar statements from other leaders today at JOOUST, has been interpreted as a collective move by the party to align with the government.
This move to isolate Sifuna comes after President Ruto himself made a stunning pledge at the funeral to "support ODM" and ensure it remains united, even hinting at a possible coalition ahead of 2027.
The attack by his key ally is now being seen by many as the first step in a strategy to remove any obstacles to a future political partnership. In his post, Senator Cherargei made the accusation plain:
"He is the mole of united opposition in ODM." The public demand for his removal signals that the battle for the heart and soul of a post-Raila ODM has officially begun.
