Scores Feared Dead After a Lorry Crashes On Top Of a Hardware Building in Mutarakwa, Kiambu

A sad accident happened on Saturday afternoon in Mutarakwa, Kiambu County, leaving many people in shock and fear. 

A lorry lost control and crashed into a hardware shop along the Mutarakwa–Maai Mahiu road near Limuru Junction. 

The lorry ended up on top of the building, with its back wheels hanging in the air and the front part buried inside the shop.

People who were nearby rushed to the scene to help. Some bystanders and motorists tried to rescue anyone who might have been trapped inside the building or the lorry. 

Photos shared online showed the vehicle stuck on the roof, and debris scattered around the shop. Many residents stood helplessly, worried about those inside.

Police officers and emergency teams arrived shortly after. They began rescue operations and tried to secure the area to prevent more injuries. 

However, they did not confirm how many people were in the shop or inside the lorry at the time of the crash. 

Some witnesses said that several people might have died, while others were injured, but the exact numbers are still unknown.

The authorities have started investigating what caused the accident. Some people believe the lorry may have had brake failure or the driver may have lost control while driving downhill. 

The police said they will give a full report after collecting all the information.

This accident comes at a time when the country is seeing more road crashes on major highways. 

Earlier the same day, six people died in another accident at Soysambu near Gilgil along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway. In that crash, a bus and a private car collided at around 4 a.m., killing all six people in the smaller car.

Many Kenyans are calling for stricter road safety rules and better driver training. Others are urging the government to put more road signs and speed bumps in dangerous areas to stop similar accidents from happening.

Families affected by the crash in Mutarakwa are waiting for updates from the police and rescue teams. 

The community is praying for survivors and hoping that those injured receive treatment quickly.
