Opposition Leaders Criticize Ruto for Allegedly Relaunching Uhuru - Era Projects in Malava

Opposition leaders have criticized President William Ruto for allegedly relaunching projects originally commissioned during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.

DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala accused Ruto of repeatedly inaugurating the same road in Malava, Kakamega County, first as Uhuru’s deputy, then after assuming office, and now once again.

Malala told the press that such repeated launches appear politically motivated rather than genuine development.

He insisted that infrastructure should serve citizens and not be used as a tool for political gain.

The DCP leader stressed that Malava residents, like other Kenyans, pay taxes and deserve benefits from public resources. He said roads and other civic amenities are constitutional rights, not favors granted by the government.

Malala added that while governments can construct infrastructure, communities retain the right to determine their voting preferences.

He emphasized that development should prioritize citizens’ welfare over political posturing.

The comments came as Ruto began his four-day Western Kenya tour, starting in Butere. He commissioned a new 124-bed Butere County Hospital, highlighting his administration’s focus on healthcare.

During the tour, the president also launched the Malava–Samitsi–Navakholo Road, a key project aimed at boosting trade and mobility in Kakamega County.

He challenged opposition leaders to focus on constructive politics rather than divisive rhetoric.

Ruto emphasized that national transformation relies on visionary leadership and unity, not political slogans.

He reaffirmed his commitment to implementing projects that improve livelihoods and economic growth across the region.

The tour reflects Ruto’s ongoing effort to demonstrate the government’s dedication to infrastructure development.

Opposition leaders, however, view repeated project launches as symbolic rather than substantive.

Malava residents remain observers of the debate, evaluating whether these inaugurations translate into meaningful improvements.
