ODM party chairperson Hon. Gladys Wanga today caused reactions after she strongly criticized some top party leaders during a grassroots meeting held at the home of acting ODM party leader Hon. Oburu Odinga in Bondo, Siaya County.
While addressing ODM members from different regions, Wanga took aim at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and others who have recently disagreed with the party leadership.
She said that some of them have been acting against the party’s wishes and warned that the party will continue to grow even without them.
“ODM is bigger than any one person. Even if some leaders decide to go their own way, the party will still move forward,” Wanga said, as members cheered.
She reminded ODM members that loyalty and respect for party rules are very important, adding that indiscipline will not be tolerated.
Her remarks come at a time when the party is facing internal disagreements after the death of its longtime leader Raila Odinga.
Many people noticed that Sifuna and Babu Owino were not present at the meeting, something that raised more questions about divisions within the party.
Some senior ODM officials who attended the meeting supported Wanga’s message, saying that unity and discipline are key if the party wants to remain strong.
They urged all members to focus on strengthening ODM ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers believe Wanga’s tough words show that there is growing tension inside ODM as it tries to rebuild its leadership and decide on the way forward.
The party is expected to hold more meetings in the coming days to discuss how to bring members together and prepare for future political battles.
