Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that President William Ruto is using a Member of Parliament from Ukambani to weaken Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s political influence in the region.
Speaking during a political event, Gachagua said that the unnamed MP has been receiving direct support from President Ruto with the aim of dividing Kalonzo’s stronghold ahead of the 2027 general election.
“Let me tell you the truth — there is an MP from Ukambani being used by Ruto to undermine Kalonzo Musyoka,” Gachagua said.
“The plan is to create confusion in the region so that Kalonzo loses his political control.”
Although Gachagua did not mention the MP’s name, his comments have stirred debate in the political circles of Ukambani, with many speculating about the leader he was referring to.
Some leaders close to Kalonzo have supported Gachagua’s claim, saying that a few MPs from the area have recently been cozying up to Kenya Kwanza for personal benefits.
Gachagua said he decided to expose the matter because he believes in honest politics.
He accused Ruto of trying to weaken opposition leaders by using individuals from within their regions to cause division.
“President Ruto is trying to break the opposition from inside. He knows Kalonzo is a strong leader, so he is now using people close to him to create problems,” Gachagua added.
He also called on leaders from Ukambani to remain united behind Kalonzo, saying that their unity will ensure the region has a strong voice in national politics.
According to him, unity among opposition leaders is key in countering what he described as Ruto’s “divide and rule” tactics.
Leaders from Wiper Party have since reacted to Gachagua’s statement, urging Kenyans to stay alert and resist political manipulation.
They said that some politicians are being used to betray their regions for short-term gains.
In conclusion, Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks have added a new twist to the political rivalry between the Kenya Kwanza government and the opposition.
His claim that a Ukambani MP is being used by President Ruto to undermine Kalonzo Musyoka has sparked heated discussions as the country heads toward the 2027 elections.
