What Was Allegedly Done to The Election Results Chebukati Used to Declare Ruto Winner

Martha Karua has firmly maintained her refusal to recognize William Ruto as the President of Kenya.

Karua expressed her freedom to voice this stance, citing constitutional support for freedom of speech.

Karua emphasized her disbelief in the election process that led to Ruto's presidency, alleging flaws in the system and rigging techniques.

She stated that even though Ruto is now the holder of the top seat, she doesn't recognize him as her leader.

"He (Ruto) is not my President. I reckon he is in office however he got there," she said.

Her skepticism extended to the Supreme Court's decision, which upheld the declaration of Ruto as the winner by former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

Karua contested the court's majority decision, questioning the legitimacy of a three-vote majority overruling a dissenting four-member panel of commissioners.

Four ex-IEBC commissioners, led by Juliana Cherera, had earlier disputed the election results, citing concerns about the opaque handling of the process.

Karua claimed that Chebukati's decision had been forced upon them, further reinforcing her lack of faith in the outcome.

She claimed that Chebukati and his team manipulated the results they used to declare Ruto winner, maintaining her belief that her boss in Azimio, ODM leader Raila Odinga, was the actual winner.

This wasn't the first time Karua had asserted her refusal to recognize Ruto as president.

In previous interviews, she has labeled the Kenya Kwanza government as illegitimate and stressed her rejection of Ruto's presidency.

During the August 9, 2023 presidential election, Ruto emerged victorious with 7.1 million votes against Raila Odinga's 6.9 million.

Despite Raila's rejection of the results and a promise to contest them in the Supreme Court, the court dismissed the petition due to insufficient evidence.

President Ruto was sworn in on September 13, 2023, marking the beginning of his presidency.
