Report from Taifa Leo has established that Former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, has quietly begun preparing a political strategy to run for president in 2027.
According to the publication, the former cabinet secretary is reportedly positioning himself to challenge President William Ruto with a mix of policy pledges, and a reformist message.
Recently he resurfaced, declaring that Kenya needs liberation from what he describes as a failed regime.
According to various sources, Dr Matiang'i is now presenting himself as a patriot focused on transformation, armed with experience, wisdom, and vast networks to rescue the country.
Last Friday Dr. Matiang’i launched one of his fiercest attacks on President Ruto’s administration, accusing it of corruption, administrative laxity, and misplaced priorities.
“What we are witnessing is nothing but shameless greed and plunder of resources. Someone is leading this nation into collapse,” he said, urging Kenyans to prepare for a leadership change come 2027.
Party meetings, secret technical committees, and grassroots outreach efforts reveal that Matiang’i is not just a government critic, but also a contender plotting his path to State House.
According to his aides, his agenda is anchored on three main pillars: restoring integrity in government, reviving the national economy, and investing in people through education, healthcare, and job creation.
In addition, Matiang’i has vowed to eradicate corruption, reducing debt, curbing wastage, and strengthening local industries.
In his campaign, he has been urging young people to register as voters, saying they are the foundation of real change. His team is crafting youth-centered policies focused on jobs, digital technology, and innovation hubs.
On August 21, he chaired a meeting of leaders from six parties: UPA, Jubilee, DEP (Bus), PDP, KSC, and PNU, where they discussed forming a joint party or coalition for the 2027 elections. A technical committee was formed to chart the way forward.
