Opposition Caught Offguard As Ruto, Raila Pulls a Last minute Surprise Move Ahead Of Election

The report from Taifa Leo has reported that President William Ruto, party leader of UDA and ODM party leader Raila Odinga have agreed that the two parties will front a single candidate in the Ugunja Constituency by-election in Siaya County.

On Sunday, President Ruto said UDA had agreed to support ODM’s candidate in order to avoid wrangles between the two parties that are part of the inclusive government.

“You know there will be a by-election here because I appointed your representative as Energy Cabinet Secretary.

"We have agreed that UDA will not field a candidate, and we shall have one candidate supported by both UDA and ODM,” President William Ruto said on Sunday in Ugunja.

Taifa Leo has established that UDA may also withdraw its candidates in Kasipul and Magarini, seats previously held by ODM legislators.

The President’s statement came at a time when UDA had announced it would field candidates even in by-elections for seats previously held by ODM.

It has also emerged that as a show of goodwill, ODM will not field candidates in Banisa, Malava, Mbeere North, Baringo County, and 13 ward races.

“ODM’s committee has resolved to field candidates in all by-elections except seven out of the 23,” ODM said.
