RIP: Sorrow as Nyamira Teacher Dies On The Way To School Reopening Day

Nyamira County is in mourning after a teacher, Wesley Monda, lost his life in a tragic road accident at Kemera on Tuesday morning.

The accident happened as schools reopened across the country, and Monda was on his way to school to start the new term.

Monda was well known in the teaching community for his calm personality and dedication to his work. Before joining Ikonge Secondary School, he taught at Emanga DEB Primary School and later at Ikonge SDA Primary School.

Colleagues and former students described him as a hardworking mentor who went beyond teaching by guiding learners and supporting school activities.

Witnesses at the scene said Monda was hit by a public service vehicle (PSV) van.

The impact left the van with a broken headlight, a clear sign of how serious the crash was. Police are still carrying out investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident.

The news of his death has been described as a major loss to Nyamira’s education sector. Teachers in the county have expressed their grief, saying Monda was a young, promising professional whose career was cut short.

Social media platforms have since been filled with emotional tributes from friends, colleagues, and former students.

One of his former learners, Alex Otwori, recalled how Monda always called him “conductor” whenever they met.

“I will really miss you, teacher. You will always remain in my heart,” he wrote.

Another mourner, Kerubo Elizabeth, offered her condolences to Monda’s widow, saying: “So sad, we have lost our colleague’s husband. May God comfort the family in this difficult time.”

Others described him as a brilliant young man who not only shaped lives in class but also used his artistic talent to design signage for businesses and institutions.

The atmosphere in Nyamira remains heavy as residents come to terms with the tragedy. Many have gathered at the accident spot to pay their last respects, while others continue to share their memories of Monda online.

Police have assured the public that more details will be provided once investigations are complete.

Meanwhile, Monda’s family, colleagues, and students are left grappling with the sudden loss of a man who inspired many both inside and outside the classroom.
