Taifa Leo has established that Raila Odinga’s allies are planning to use the upcoming October National Delegates Council (NDC) to oust Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna.
The ODM sources has revealed that the leaders who are close to Raila within the Kenya Kwanza administration are planning in secret to axe Sifuna, accusing him of arrogance and alleging he is being used to destabilize the party from within and embarrass Raila.
“Sifuna spoke recklessly in Trans Nzoia because he knows his time in the party is over and he can’t serve as secretary general again. October is not far, and we will use that meeting to remove him completely so he won’t even dare defend his position,” said an ODM MP allied to Mr. Raila who requested anonymity.
Tensions over the upcoming conference have already begun, with sharp divisions emerging between ODM MPs from Western Kenya and those from Nyanza over Sifuna’s conduct.
ODM politicians from Western Kenya back Sifuna, arguing that the current government has neglected their region, and even after Raila joined government, Western has not benefited from development projects like Nyanza has.
“When he used the word ‘broker,’ who was he referring to? Why was he afraid to name them? Sifuna will not serve as ODM secretary general after October,” added the MP.
Last week, Mr. Odinga chaired a high-level party meeting where it was resolved that ODM’s positions on various issues would be communicated through the party’s official structures.
This move was seen as an attempt to clip Sifuna’s wings, as he has frequently given media interviews criticizing President Ruto’s administration.
