After the impeachment of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, President William Ruto is facing a herculean task to woo Mount Kenya region to back his re-election bid again.
So far Rigathi Gachagua has joined hands with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugine Wamalwa, Justin Muturi, Fred Matiang'i among others, who have vowed to form a formidable coalition to unseat President William Ruto in 2027 presidential elections.
However, despite Former Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i, receiving endorsement from Gen Zs, MP Makali Mulu noted that the real threat to Kenya Kwanza administration is Kalonzo Musyoka and not Fred Matiang'i.
Speaking on Monday, August 4, 2025, during an interview with TV 47, the MP noted that Kenya Kwanza government has done it's analysis, and Kalonzo Musyoka remains a formidable foe that can give president William Ruto enough headache in the run up to 2027 elections.
"Kenya Kwanza have done their analysis, and found out that Kalonzo Musyoka is the biggest threat. That's why they are trying so hard to dismantle the united opposition. Kalonzo has shoved off the 'water melon' tag.. we now have a new 'water melon'." Noted MP Makali Mulu.
According to the lawmaker, United Opposition and not political formation, is capable of removing Kenya Kwanza out of government.
He said Western Kenya is also facing a renaissance, with it's young leaders being challenged to re-organise themselves if they yearn to capture power.
"I am afraid, we need a united opposition to get Kenya Kwanza out of gov't, not more political formations... There is a theory that for Western Kenya to capture power in Kenya, it has to come from the lake. But today, Western Kenya is being challenged that if they are to be taken seriously in national politics, they have to re-organise." added Makali Mulu.
Nevertheless, according to former Agriculture minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa, the former vice president will not side with President Ruto as his running mate, since he has faced a fierce propaganda especially from Ruto and Raila, calling him," watermelon."
"I know that Kalonzo Musyoka will not be President Ruto's running mate in 2027. Kalonzo has been a victim of fierce propaganda in Kenya. Raila and Ruto christened him 'water melon', but today, who is the betrayer and 'water melon'?" Said Kipruto Arap Kirwa
