Former Kikuyu MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has maintained that ODM Party is heading in the wrong direction, and instead of seeking solution they are just engaging in PR gimmicks.
Speaking in an interview with TV 47, on 30 July 2025, the former MP noted It does not matter what ODM says in press conferences, and instead stand firm on calling out abduction, extrajudicial killings and police brutality.
"ODM Party should even say 'we will not allow our members in the Cabinet, if gov't does not stop abductions." he advised.
In addition, he said ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna could have faced possible exit should he have refused to read the party resolution to the nation yesterday.
"Edwin Sifuna could have lost the Secretary-General position of ODM should he have refused to read the party statement to the nation yesterday. You have to admire the way ODM Party allows its members to 'move out' and express their opinion, and then come back and toe the party line." Said Ngunjiri Wambugu.
In reference to previous handshakes with Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta, Ngunjiri Wambugu observed that ODM has perfected the art of enjoying gov't without really winning presidential elections.
He said ODM leader Raila Odinga found a way into the Kibaki, Uhuru and now Ruto gov't, which has enabled ODM to survive and remain relevant all these years.
"ODM has perfected the art of enjoying gov't without really winning presidential elections. ODM leader Raila Odinga found a way into the Kibaki, Uhuru and now Ruto gov't. This has enabled ODM to survive and remain relevant all these years. Now we are talking about ODM heading into the 2027 elections." He added.
