The incident occurred on Christmas Day, sparking shock and outrage in the local community.
The victim, Geoffrey Murimi, reportedly confronted his uncle, Daniel Warui, 47, over Ksh7,500 that Warui had allegedly misused from a leased rice farm.
Family members say Warui spent the money at a local bar, buying alcohol and drinks for women, prompting Geoffrey to question his uncle’s actions.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Jackson Kibugi, another relative, explained that the confrontation escalated after Geoffrey reported the matter to his grandmother, 80-year-old Jecinta Wanjira.
“My grandson is fighting for his life, and my son even attacked me. I want Daniel Warui arrested for what he has done,” said Jecinta, visibly distressed.
The family has since reported the matter to Thiba Police Station, but as of now, Warui has not been apprehended.
Angry residents of Thiba North village say Warui escaped to Ngurubani town after the attack.
“I saw him in town, and he even claimed to the village in-charge that he had killed Geoffrey. That’s why he was running away,” said Peter Murimi, a local resident.
According to the family, the dispute began when Daniel Warui leased half an acre of rice farm for Ksh20,000.
On Christmas Day, Warui allegedly spent the remaining Ksh7,500 recklessly, prompting Geoffrey’s questioning.
“Geoffrey was concerned after seeing Daniel spend the money irresponsibly, almost as if he was campaigning for a political position,” said Jackson Kibugi.
The community has expressed concern over the violent escalation and is calling on authorities to take swift action to prevent further harm.
Local residents fear that if Warui remains at large, similar incidents could occur, further endangering the family and neighbors.
Police authorities have launched investigations into the case, with the family urging quick action to apprehend Warui and ensure justice for the victim and his injured mother.
