Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has stirred fresh political debate after warning that President William Ruto’s hold on power could collapse swiftly if Mt Kenya and Western regions decide to unite behind one agenda.
Natembeya compared such a union to the historic partnership between former President Mwai Kibaki and the late Vice President Kijana Wamalwa, saying it would shift the entire country’s political balance in a way the current government could not withstand.
In a clip that has since gone viral, the outspoken governor boldly stated that if the “Mlima” and “Mulembe” communities speak in one voice, other regions will naturally rally behind them, leaving Ruto politically cornered.
Natembeya, who has positioned himself as one of the key political voices from Western Kenya, noted that the spirit of unity between the two regions could recreate the energy that once propelled the Kibaki-Wamalwa coalition to power in 2002.
He argued that such a move would bring a wave of political realignment that could send the current administration into panic.
His remarks come at a time when political talks are intensifying over a possible alliance between top Mt Kenya figures and Western leaders ahead of 2027.
Analysts suggest that a Mt Kenya–Western coalition could command a strong voter bloc capable of challenging President Ruto’s re-election bid, especially if backed by leaders like ODM boss Raila Odinga, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and CS Micro and Medium Enterprises Wycliffe Oparanya.
Natembeya’s statement has sparked excitement online, with many Kenyans describing it as a bold but realistic prediction of what might reshape Kenya’s political map.
Others see it as a strategic warning to leaders still hesitant about inter-regional unity.
Whether Mt Kenya and Western can overcome political rivalry and ego to forge a serious coalition remains to be seen, but if they do, as Natembeya hinted, Ruto’s State House stay could indeed be shorter than expected.
