Photos Of UDA Politician Attacked By Goons In Church While Wetang’ula Watched Helplessly

A church service at Bulimbo Catholic Church was thrown into chaos on Sunday, February 22, after a female politician was attacked by suspected goons during a fundraiser attended by senior leaders.

The incident occurred as politicians Moses Wetangula and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa watched helplessly.

Witnesses said a group of men stormed the church and targeted Winfred Abuti, a United Democratic Alliance politician seeking the Kakamega Woman Member of Parliament seat in 2027.

After the attack, Abuti told journalists that five men approached her while she was seated and forcefully ejected her outside, where they began assaulting her.

She said police officers providing security at the church intervened and rescued her from further harm, while several members of the County Assembly helped shield her as she was escorted to safety.

Abuti claimed the attack was politically motivated, noting that those behind it were known to her.

She insisted she had never insulted anyone or engaged in violent politics and could not understand why she was targeted in the church.

Father Stanlous Osidi, the parish priest, condemned the incident and urged politicians to avoid using youths to cause violence.

He called on leaders to respect places of worship and promote peace, warning that rising political tension in Kakamega County had become worrying.
