A section of ODM party leader Oburu Odinga's camp is reportedly in panic following growing signs that several of their allies are considering defecting to the rival Linda Mwananchi faction led by Senator Edwin Sifuna.
According to The Star, the looming defections have unsettled Oburu’s Linda Ground faction, threatening to weaken the camp that has been backing President William Ruto within the broad-based government arrangement.
The discontent comes at a time when the Linda Mwananchi movement continues to gain momentum, buoyed by a series of successful rallies held across different parts of the country.
Sifuna has in recent months hinted at ambitions for higher office, with political observers viewing his Linda Mwananchi faction as a possible foundation for a 2027 presidential bid.
His position has, however, placed him at odds with sections of the ODM leadership, particularly following disagreements over the party’s cooperation agreement with President Ruto’s administration.
Despite attempts to remove him from the Secretary General position, an action he challenged and overturned in court, Sifuna has continued to build political influence, especially among urban youth who see him as a key opposition voice.
