A young boy from Nairobi has inspired Kenyans after his heartbreaking story of raising his younger siblings alone led to life-changing support and a full scholarship at Visa Oshwal Academy.
Tito Wambua, a teenager from Kayole, had become the sole pillar of his family after taking up the responsibility of caring for his four younger siblings while struggling to survive.
His story touched many Kenyans after it emerged that he balanced caregiving with doing odd jobs, including collecting garbage, to provide food and basic needs for his family.
The family’s painful struggle quickly captured national attention, prompting an outpouring of support from well-wishers across the country.
Within days, over KSh 223,000 was raised to support Tito and his siblings, easing the burden he had carried for months.
Apart from financial support, Kenyans donated food, household items, furniture, and helped relocate the family to a better home.
Several supporters also stepped in to address urgent medical needs affecting Tito’s mother.
Among those moved by Tito’s story was nominated senator Tabitha Mutinda, who played a key role in securing his admission into Visa Oshwal Boarding Primary School on a full sponsorship programme.
The boarding school opportunity marks a major turning point for Tito, who had sacrificed much of his childhood to act as a parent figure to his siblings.
Speaking during his admission, Tito promised to work hard and focus on his studies, expressing gratitude to everyone who stood by his family.
However, many Kenyans have urged well-wishers and leaders to also support Tito’s younger siblings, arguing that separating the children could be emotionally difficult since Tito had become their main source of comfort and guidance.
His journey now stands as a powerful example of resilience, sacrifice, and the strength of community support.
