Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament, Johana Ng’eno, together with five other people lost their lives after a helicopter crash in Chepkiep, Nandi County.
The incident occurred when the aircraft attempted an emergency landing but burst into flames shortly after.
Witnesses said they saw smoke rising from the crash site moments after the chopper lost control. Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene, but the fire had already caused extensive damage.
A video circulating online shows Hon Ng’eno stepping out of the helicopter earlier in the day, accompanied by other occupants.
In the footage, they are warmly received by residents who had gathered for a local event. The MP appeared in high spirits as he interacted with members of the community.
According to a post shared on his official social media page, the MP had travelled to Kapkugo, Tulwop Kony, and Endebes to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Artist Kim Kim in the music industry. He joined fellow leaders, friends, and fans in marking the milestone.
Earlier, he had also shared photos and a video clip while aboard the helicopter over the Mara River area. He had taken part in efforts at Mara Rianta to support families and rescue teams searching for two young men who were swept away by the river.
Authorities have launched investigations to determine the cause of the crash and to confirm the identities of all those who were on board. Leaders from across the country have sent messages of condolence to the bereaved families.
The nation now waits for answers as families mourn their loved ones during this painful time.
