Nairobi – Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has rejected a directive by a bishop from the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) that bars her from addressing church gatherings.
The MP, known for her outspoken views, accused the church leadership of corruption and questioned the motive behind the decision.
The bishop had issued a ban prohibiting Wamuchomba from speaking in any AIPCA church, claiming she had insulted church authorities.
The order also warned that any reverend who offers her a platform would face disciplinary action, including possible expulsion.
In a strong response shared on social media, Wamuchomba dismissed the move as unjust and politically driven.
She recalled how members of the AIPCA Nyaga church had chanted “One term” during her visit, echoing her campaign for President William Ruto to serve only one term in office.
“Tell the bishop to ban the whole congregation of AIPCA Nyaga church that chanted ‘One term’ when I addressed them,” she wrote, questioning why she alone was targeted.
The legislator further stated that she would not be silenced and would continue to engage with other church communities.
“As long as I’m not banned in Zayuni, it’s a relentless express one term,” she added, reaffirming her political stand.
Wamuchomba’s defiance is significant given her membership in the ruling UDA party, which backs President Ruto’s leadership.
Her criticism has set her apart as one of the few ruling party lawmakers openly questioning the President’s re-election prospects.
The AIPCA leadership has not explained which of Wamuchomba’s statements led to the ban, nor has it addressed the corruption claims she raised.
The silence has fueled speculation about internal divisions within the church and the growing tension between faith institutions and politics.
