President William Ruto's Constitutional Affairs Advisor, Makau Mutua, has taken a jibe at DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, following the united opposition's by-election defeats.
This is after DP candidate, Newton Kariuki, lost in Mbeere North, even after Gachagua and his colleagues in the opposition camped there for days to drum up support for him.
According to Mutua, this means the former Deputy President remains a mere paper tiger who lacks the control he claims to have in the Mt Kenya region.
He has suggested that the region seems to instead listen to current Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who is known for his "Faya si faya" campaign phrase.
"He was proven a paper tiger in Mt Kenya. After a year of braggadocio and empty conniptions. He saw faya!" he says on X.
Both Gachagua and Kindiki camped in the constituency in the run up to the mini poll, with the DP leading UDA candidate Leo Wamuthende's campaigns.
The parallel rallies repeatedly resulted in attacks and counterattacks, with Kindiki warning that he will mess Gachagua's political career for mocking his voice.
He referred to him as the mythical Goliath who has made it a habit to harass area politicians but whose political end is fast approaching.
The enmity between the two seems to emerge from their fight for the control of the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, especially with the 2027 general election fast approaching.
The fact that Kindiki was tipped by President William Ruto to replace Gachagua following his impeachment mate last year also seems like another reason.
