“Kenyans Won’t Allow Ruto to Use the Military for Power" Warns Lawyer Kibe Mungai

Advocate of the High Court, Kibe Mungai, has sounded a strong warning about what he calls a worrying trend in Kenya’s political scene.

Speaking on the growing politicization of the military, Mungai said the country could be heading into dangerous territory as top military appointments and retirements appear to be taking on political undertones ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He cautioned that the involvement of the military in politics is a direct threat to democracy and stability.

According to Mungai, recent decisions surrounding promotions and transfers within the armed forces have raised eyebrows among Kenyans who fear that the institution is slowly being drawn into the political arena.

He argued that when the military starts serving political interests instead of the Constitution, the country’s peace and unity are put at great risk.

“The signs are not good. We are seeing attempts to control the military for political gain. Dark days lie ahead if this trend continues,” Mungai warned.

He added that Kenya’s hard-won democracy must not be compromised by power struggles or manipulation of state institutions.

However, he expressed faith in the Kenyan people, saying that citizens have become more politically aware and will not allow any leader including President William Ruto to use the military as a tool to cling to power.

“Kenyans are wiser now. They will not let anyone take power through the military. It would not end well because chaos would erupt,” he emphasized.
